Our being busy almost every day is one reason we opt for equipment or machines to make our food preparations easy and fast. Juicing is a trend now since people claim it is beneficial for the health, and it saves time. Some would think it has helped with losing weight while others with getting more nutrients out of the fruits or vegetables.
We are individuals with different opinions, lifestyle, biological make-up, and dietary needs. That being said, every one of us can weigh out the pros and cons of juicing. One big factor in determining whether it is good or bad for us is health. By health, we also mean the illnesses we have or are more likely to develop.
If we have a family history of diabetes, juicing may not be a good option. Juicing only fruits produces a beverage high in calories as there is more sugar in it, mainly fructose. Our blood sugar will also increase if we drink fruit extracted juices.
When we combine fruits and vegetables, we lessen the sugar concentration, but it is not just about the sugar. It is also about the balance of the other minerals in the juice. If we choose the wrong fruits or veggies, there is a tendency our bodies would react to a certain excess of a mineral. Minerals mostly found in fruits include potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, and zinc. Potassium and calcium contribute to heart health.
Someone with a heart problem should consult a physician before he can take a juice-only diet. Although this diet may be rich in iron and calcium, it can’t supply the nutritional quantity the body needs, especially the needs of the blood, muscles, and bones. Apart from carbohydrates, we need the other two macronutrients as well: protein and fats.
There is another type of carbohydrate, but it is indigestible. Fiber maintains normal blood sugar and helps reduce fats in the blood. If we understand the role of fiber, we may have second thoughts if we will eliminate it in our diet or not. It is important to consider that the fiber is lost as the pulp is removed in juicing. Without fiber, we will have a hard time defeating our cravings. Fiber helps cleanse the colon and, therefore, decreases the likelihood of us being constipated.
With the fiber being mentioned, there is no scientific evidence supporting the idea that juicing helps with weight management. It does not, in a day, burn fats that it can treat obesity. Obesity is a health problem that can only be managed if that person knows its root cause. Obesity may be a result of faulty genetics, metabolic disorder, or a result of an unhealthy lifestyle.
Another hype is that juicing helps with detoxification. Detoxification is a natural process our bodies are able to do. It is just a matter of taking care of the liver and kidneys. As said earlier, a juice-only diet may cause harm rather than benefit. Take the calcium as an example. The excessive intake of calcium may bring about kidney stones.
We also consider the freshness of the fruits and veggies in juicing. Some devotees claim that juicing prolongs the freshness of fruits and vegetables. This claim is not true since, like a freshly cut fruit, its open area will be exposed to air, making that brownish. That area undergoes chemical change, meaning, it is no longer that fresh as it was before.
Juicing in moderation is recommended as compared to making it a part of everyday diet. It is good if we are not used to eating fruits with many seeds, or if we do not like the taste of a certain vegetable. We can choose to add honey or a fruit juice to a vegetable mixture.
Juicing is not harmful at all. It helps busy people save time. The more health-conscious individuals may choose blending instead. In terms of retention of freshness of the ingredients, we may want to look at the different types of juicers. While it is true that slow juicers are able to produce juice that can stays fresh for a longer than usual period of time, nothing can replace eating whole fruits and veggies.
Once again I’m pondering the research around “diets.” First of all, I hate the word diet. It implies some sort of rigorous eating plan that once completed, will solve all your health problems and somehow miraculously allow you to resume former habits. Or, it alludes to something you hop on/off a couple times per year in hopes of staving off weight gain.
Diet is actually defined as the foods a person or animal habitually eats. In that sense, the way we use diet is all wrong. For most, “diets” have a foreseeable end, whereas a diet in actuality is the way you eat most of the time.
There are numerous “diets” or ways of eating that are being publicized. Who hasn’t heard of the ketogenic diet by now? There is also paleo, Mediterranean, low carb, macrobiotic, vegetarian, vegan, etc. All of these tout that their plan is the “way” everyone should eat. It can be extremely confusing. It’s like a pick your own adventure of diets.
Naturally, as a dietitian, everyone wants to know what I deem to be the BEST diet. Some are disappointed when I don’t provide a clear and firm response on the matter. You see, the reason I keep pondering various these diets is because I’ve seen through countless client encounters that many diets, as healthy as they might seem, just plain do not work for some people. I have had people come in, desperate for help, because the “healthy” diet they have followed to the “t” is producing no weight loss results, or even worse, causing increased lipid levels and reduced energy. What gives?
Recent research out of Texas A&M may provide some helpful results.1 They showed that in mice fed various popular diets (Standard American, Ketogenic, Japanese, Atkins, etc ), they all responded differently, some positive and some negative. In other words, some mice showed positive improvements on particular plans while others actually got worse on the very same diet.
The key is genetics. The researchers in this study suspect that genetic variations cause our bodies to respond better or worse to various foods and styles of eating. For example, one mouse in particular did very poorly on the Japanese diet, surprisingly, while the rest stayed in good health. Also, most did poorly on the standard American diet (as expected) but some fared less poorly than others.
The take home message is that clearly, one diet does not fit all. A diet that improves the health of one person might worsen the health of another. So many out there want to promote and sell you the universal “ideal” diet, and yet it is becoming more clear that it does not exist. The role of genetics is only going to continue to become more prominent as we search for answers in the obesity epidemic and for conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and hypertension.
Everybody is interested in having a great smile with an intention of remaining beautiful. However, a great smile needs investment in cleaning your teeth. Many people have lost their perfect smiles just by neglecting the simple rule of effective cleaning of their teeth. You need direction to obtain better oral hygiene. Therefore, it is imperative for you to know the tips to help you maintain good oral hygiene.

In fact, they are more dangerous to your health because they injure the gums and that provides room for bacterial infection. Also, replace your toothbrush after every three months.
The usage of tobacco is harmful to your oral health too. Dentists discovered that tobacco causes oral cancer and various periodontal complications. By using tobacco, you are at risk of suffering from various oral ailments and that is not worth it. Adding tea, alcohol, and sodas while taking the tobacco makes the situation even worse. Tobacco stains your teeth and that destroys your smile.

It is advisable to take the available dairy products within your reach for great oral health.
The dentists have undergone special training on oral health and treating various diseases. Thus, it is impossible to access quality periodontal & oral hygiene services without them. Mouthwash and flossing
Apart from brushing the teeth, you should use the mouthwash too in the process. By gaggling the mouthwash after brushing, you will be able to remove some of the hidden particles. Flossing of the teeth should be done too. Flossing can be done at home or in the dentist’s office. You can buy dental floss and do it from the comfort of your home. Flossing removes a majority of hidden food particles.

That will help you in finding various dental faults that will require expert attention. Report any pains too.
It is widely known that certain foods and drinks are detrimental to your teeth and gums. Hard, chewy candy, starchy foods, coffee, tea and soda are likely to pop into your head when you think of foods you should avoid to keep your teeth strong, healthy and pearly white.
Besides your diet, did you know that some of your innocent little habits can be just as detrimental, if not more so than those bad foods and drinks?
Here is a list of some of the worst habits for your teeth:
Biting your nails. This nervous or habit of boredom may seem innocent enough, but it is slowly wearing down your teeth. Nails can be hard and the constant gnawing of them causes the enamel of the teeth to crack, chip and weaken. When the enamel is weakened, the teeth become more brittle and are prone to breakage and cracking.
Using your teeth as tools. Similar wearing down of the teeth happen when you use your teeth as tools to open things. The teeth are exposed to a lot of force which can crack the enamel on the top of the tooth.
Chewing ice cubes. One may think chewing on an ice cube on a hot summer day is fun, refreshing and harmless. After all, the ice is easily broken into pieces. Surely teeth are stronger than ice.
Sure, the ice melts in the mouth, but the pieces of the ice can be sharp and jagged, scratching the enamel of the teeth.
Grinding or clenching your jaw. Your teeth weren’t meant to bear the consistent, extreme pressure that is in grinding the teeth and clenching the jaw. When you constantly grind your teeth, the rubbing of the two teeth surfaces causes the enamel of both to get worn down.
If you’re in the habit of clenching your jaw, the pressure exerted onto the teeth can cause them to crack and possibly chip and break.
Not using a mouth guard. For those who are active in contact sports or sports where injury to the face can occur, a mouth guard is highly recommended. When a permanent (adult) tooth is knocked out, it may be able to get reinserted by a dentist in a dental emergency. If the knocked-out tooth isn’t promptly treated, the tooth will die and won’t be able to be replaced. Unlike primary (baby) teeth, permanent teeth don’t have replacement teeth that grow into its place should it fall out.
Broken or chipped teeth also require prompt treatment or the damage is permanent and will need future dental work.
Constant snacking. Eating snacks throughout the day while at work or out and about without an adequate way to clean your teeth can increase your chance of tooth decay and gum disease. Carrying floss picks and rinsing your mouth with water after snacking are ways you can reduce the amount of trapped food particles stuck between teeth.
When the teeth aren’t washed and rinsed regularly after snacking, the lodged food particles break down and decay, producing an enamel-eating film on the teeth.
Cough drops. Cough drops are infamous sugar bombs though many people discount this as they associate them with medicine.
While they are medicine and they ease your sore throat and cough, their sugar content is disastrous for your teeth. The devastating effects of cough drops are also exacerbated when taken overnight as one’s saliva production decreases.
It is important promptly and thoroughly brush your teeth in the morning and in the evening before going to bed.
Mouth piercings. Okay, this is not a habit, but a reversible decision. While piercings of the lips or tongue may look cool, the metal of the stud or ring constantly bangs against teeth, which can slowly crack and chip them over time.
Smoking or using tobacco. It has long been known that tobacco products are bad for your teeth and gums. Tobacco destroys the tissues of the gums and inside of the mouth. Those who use tobacco risk severe gum disease which can lead to lost teeth. Tobacco also causes cancer of the mouth and throat which can be fatal if not treated promptly.
We all have little habits we do on a regular basis. Unfortunately, not all these habits are as innocent and harmless as we think. Some, like nail biting, snacking and jaw clenching can destroy teeth enamel, the protective barrier on the surface of teeth that keeps the teeth hard and white.
Do you have a missing tooth? The impact of missing teeth goes far beyond aesthetics. If you’re considering dental implants for those gaps, now is the best time to seek an implant dentist.
The real cost of missing teeth
The most obvious impact of lacking pearly whites is the effect they have on the appearance of a person. Our looks affect the way we feel. Lack of pearly whites therefore have profound social and psychological effects. Many people with missing teeth are self-conscious, especially when it comes to smiling or laughing.
The impact of having no teeth is far reaching where dental health is concerned. The loss of pearly whites affects the jaw bone. This is because stimulation is required to maintain and improve the density of the jaw bone. Therefore, a person who has lost teeth is likely to suffer loss in jaw bone width over time.
The effects go even further if the bone loss is not arrested. If the loss continues, it will cause a change in the shape of the person’s face. This will eventually result in the partial collapse of the face.
Some people are only concerned about the loss of pearly whites in parts of the mouth that are easily noticeable such as the front. However, loss of teeth at the back of the mouth results in a change in bite. This is because they provide vertical support for the face. If they are not there, they will cause the front pearly whites to be crushed together.
The best way to solve the issues caused by lost pearly whites is to replace them. This is what dental implants were designed to do. They replace the roots of the missing tooth. They consist of a rod made of titanium that is inserted into the jaw bone. The jawbone eventually grows around the titanium rod and holds it in place. This rod acts as the root and provides support to a tooth replica that is screwed to the top.
What to expect
When you approach an implant dentist for implants, they will examine your mouth to determine whether you are a good candidate for the procedure. This will involve x-rays to see the density of your jaw bone.
Acne is the most common skin condition faced by many teenagers in their teenage years, and can also occur on the skin of adults.
It is commonly said that acne occurs mostly on females, which is entirely wrong. Acne is an overall problem as well by men at all stages of life. Some people have acne even when they passed their teenage and are still victims of acne when they have become adults. The reasons acne occurs in both men and women are quite different but sometimes they may also vary; for men, an abnormal production of some hormones may trigger acne.
There are many causes that can trigger acne. It is possible for acne being mild, intense, or painful, depending on the skin condition and the kind of environment the person works in. Those who live and work in a polluted environment are more prone towards acne instead of those who work in a good clean environment. When the bacteria which is sebum, reacts on oily skin, it instantly starts to blog the pores on the skin surface and causes acne, pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, blemishes and other skin conditions which all come under acne.
Acne not only can cause pain and some suffering, but also lowers self-esteem and confidence as he or she might be conscious about their looks. Acne treatment is a must and there are many treatments available for acne such as over the counter medicines, ointments etc., antibiotics, gels and lotions, scrubs and cleansers, and other things. Although, from most of them it is better to stay away. Most times to opt for natural remedies is a better outcome.
Acne Affects Both Sexes
It is commonly said that acne occurs mostly in women, which is entirely wrong. In men, there is sometimes abnormal production of some hormones which may trigger production of acne. Other conditions like working in a polluted environment, taking too much stress, are other things that can cause acne to erupt in a person.
It has also been found that in comparison to females men’s acne is much more intense as men contain hormones called testosterone, where as women have the same hormone but in smaller quantity. Testosterone plays a key role in developing male reproductive tissues such as the testis and prostate, as well as promoting secondary sexual characteristics such as increased muscle and bone mass, and the growth of body hair.
The facial skin irritates easily because of its sensitivity, more so than normal skins. It is very important that men use the right kind of tools when shaving and the right blade and shaving cream.
Tips For Acne Removal and Treatment
There are safe and effective ways to treat acne with herbal and natural techniques. Of all the evidence, natural acne treatment is the only thing that works. Avoid all skin creams unless they are all made from natural ingredients.
Face cleansing is the most important thing an acne sufferer should take care of. If the face is clear of excessive oil and bacteria, then the chances of acquiring acne becomes reduced. A non-oily and good face wash cleanser is best being used and rinsed with clean water.
Rinse effected area twice daily and pat dry. The 2nd rinse is best before going to bed. Avoid cleansing too often, this can irritate the skin even more. In the morning massage raw honey (“Manuka” if possible), with your fingertips over your face, then just rinse off. The honey will remove excess oil, but at the same time leaves the skin moisturized.
Tee tree oil has some famous ingredients for acne treatment. It not only reduces acne, it is also good for other skin problems, like blemishes, wrinkles, blackheads, whiteheads etc. Tea tree oil is most beneficial and often even better than benzyl peroxide in treating acne; it leaves the skin clear and smooth.
Dip a cotton ball or swab into lemon juice which is disinfectant, tab on to affected area and rinse with clean water.
Apple cider vinegar can help your skin in many ways. One reason vinegar is very helpful in treating skin disorders is that it has a pH which is nearly the same as healthy skin. So, applying apple cider vinegar helps to normalize the pH of the skin.
Aloe-Vera is very soothing and reduces inflammation and redness. You can apply the gel to your skin, massage it in with your fingers. To do this several times per day can also be helpful. Use the gel straight from a growing plant for best results.
Any of those treatments can work for you. It is a matter of which one to choose. It is a matter of trial and error because of different skin types.
Other Things That Help
The wrong diet as well can worsen your skin condition. Avoid most soft drinks, eat more fruit, green leafy vegetables, green tea, nuts, fish oil, krill oil, omega-3, eggs etc. Drink a reasonable amount of water to keep the skin hydrated. Water should always be your first choice of beverage; it outperforms all other drinks for thirst.
Over lathering your body when you wash or shower with all the harsh soaps, shampoos and cleansers, tends to remove the protective sebum which are beneficial fats that your body uses to protect your skin. Exercise can help with blood circulation and releases stress which also can cause acne.
Most shaving creams contain many chemicals and toxins. It is best to use natural, toxin free shaving cream. The same applies if the skin is excessive dry. A natural shower shampoo and after shower moisturizer be used to keep the skin moisturized. Stay away from all creams that contain chemicals and toxins, use natural products only.
Acne is a common skin disease that causes pimples. Pimples form when hair follicles under your skin clog up. Most pimples form on the face, neck, back, chest, and shoulders. Anyone can get acne, but it is common in teenagers and young adults. It is not serious, but it can cause scars.
No one knows exactly what causes acne. Hormone changes, such as those during the teenage years and pregnancy, probably play a role. There are many myths about what causes acne. Chocolate and greasy foods are often blamed, but there is little evidence that foods have much effect on acne in most people. Another common myth is that dirty skin causes acne; however, blackheads and pimples are not caused by dirt. Stress doesn’t cause acne, but stress can make it worse.
If you have acne
Clean your skin gently
Try not to touch your skin
Avoid the sun
Treatments for acne include medicines and creams.
Eating fewer simple carbohydrates such as sugar may help. Treatments applied directly to the affected skin, such as azelaic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and salicylic acid, are commonly used. Antibiotics and retinoids are available in formulations that are applied to the skin and taken by mouth for the treatment of acne. However, resistance to antibiotics may develop as a result of antibiotic therapy. Several types of birth control pills help against acne in women. Isotretinoin pills are usually reserved for severe acne due to greater potential side effects. Early and aggressive treatment of acne is advocated by some in the medical community to decrease the overall long-term impact to individuals.
In 2015, acne was estimated to affect 633 million people globally, making it the 8th most common disease worldwide. Acne commonly occurs in adolescence and affects an estimated 80-90% of teenagers in the Western world. Lower rates are reported in some rural societies. Children and adults may also be affected before and after puberty. Although acne becomes less common in adulthood, it persists in nearly half of affected people into their twenties and thirties and a smaller group continue to have difficulties into their forties.
Aloe, known for its burn-relieving properties, can promote healing, fight infection, and even reduce scarring. Scrape the gel from an aloe plant out with a spoon, and apply to acne. You can also buy aloe gel from health-food stores-just make sure it’s pure aloe, with no added ingredients. Other home remedies may help
There are several reasons associated with the health and downfall of the condition of your skin. It is your duty to get these issues identified as soon as possible so as to start the treatment at the right time. One of the most important things to consider once you notice the signs of pimples growing out in specific areas of your face, is to get the cause diagnosed.
Until and unless the root cause of your pimples and acne is not clear, no skin treatment can work its magic on your face. The red-colored pimples scattered all over your face need to be treated in order to enjoy a clear and smooth skin. You might come across countless tips and tricks present on the internet that claim to provide you with miraculous products to cure acne.
However, the main problem still remains consistent in its place because if you don’t treat the actual problem, you will be prone to getting it again and again. This issue is mostly seen in the young adults, in other words, teenagers. Basically, the acne that starts to appear during adolescence is mainly due to certain hormonal disturbances going on inside the body when the body is going through a number of changes.
The hormone is not present in every teenager and it strikes only a selective unfortunate people. It is extremely important for you to halt the excessive oil production and the acne-causing bacteria present on your skin to free yourself from this nuisance. Since the acne produced during the teenage years is due to hormonal imbalance, there is probably nothing that you can eat to prevent it.
On the other hand, if you browse through the beauty market closely, then you might come across a number of brands or companies that offer products that can reduce the inflammation and appearance of acne itself and the scars caused due to it, using natural ingredients. But then again, the root cause of everyone’s acne is different from the other, which is why if something works for someone else, it doesn’t means that it can work for you too.
It develops within a short time span and if not prevented or cured at the right time, you might have to face a lot more issues than you could’ve faced in the initial phase. The burning, inflammation, and the intensity of the redness and growth of acne is different among different people, and thus, you need to focus on your symptoms to cater to it accordingly and efficiently.
The facial area is the main focus of the acne problem that is why you need to notice it very carefully so that you don’t use anything to make it worse.

Hence, it can be bothersome to tell a teenager suffering from depression from a teenager who could just be experiencing moodiness. Indeed, most teens feel unhappy and moody at times. Teen years itself is a turbulent time for kids. With all the hormone changes they go through and many other changes happening in their lives, it’s easy to see why they have such acute mood swings. Teenagers, unlike adults, do not have the ability to seek help on their own. They rely on their parents, teachers, or elders to help recognize their suffering and provide them with the help they need.
How do you spot the warning signs? Some of the prominent signs and symptoms in a teenager suffering from depression include:
